MINI Goes Upmarket With GOODWOOD  [15/04/2011]

Maybe it’s the upcoming Royal wedding, but at China’s Auto Shanghai show, MINI has suddenly gone terribly…well, British actually!

To appeal to the growing numbers of “discerning customers” (their words, not ours) MINI unveiled the MINI INSPIRED BY GOODWOOD range.

We quote MINI: “An exceptionally resolute manifestation of premium character is embodied by the MINI INSPIRED BY GOODWOOD.” Almost enough to make you head for the cupboard and give those Harrods china teacups a polish!

MINI says the newcomer’s exterior and interior features were conceived at the Rolls-Royce Design division in the southern English town of Goodwood (both MINI and Rolls-Royce are owned by Germany’s BMW Group).

Inside are dashboard and door-handle surfaces in Walnut Burr – a wood quality exclusive to Rolls-Royce – and manufactured in Goodwood. The dashboard, Lounge leather seats, air-vents, roof lining and cladding are all in the exclusive Cornsilk colour of Rolls-Royce, there are Piano Black surfaces for buttons etc and the door linings are in Tipped Leather Cornsilk.

The roof lining is Cashmere and even the sun visors, storage tray and floormats are deep pile lambswool from Rolls-Royce.

On the outside, the MINI INSPIRED BY GOODWOOD is painted in the exclusive Rolls-Royce colour Diamond Black and runs multi-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels.

Power comes from MINI’s twin-scroll turbocharged 1.6-litre, direct injection petrol engine delivering 135kW.
