The front-wheel drive Mercedes-Benz makes use of a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine developing 156kW coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It also features a radar-based collision warning system with adaptive brake assist.

More than anything though, it’s the exterior design that sets this concept apart. According to Professor Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz:

“The Concept A-Class introduces the new Mercedes-Benz design idiom into the premium small car segment in a sculptured, light and expressive interpretation.”

The interior of the Concept A-Class is inspired by aircraft engineering ideas. This is reflected in the large panorama roof, the dashboard and center console which are nothing more than just brushed aluminum structures. And yes, that is an iPad in the centre console.

Some other notable features include the daytime running lamps which are made up of 90 optical fibers with aluminum sleeves. They are then placed in a wing-shape within the headlamp.

We hope the Mercedes Concept A-Class will make an appearance at the Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne as it’s definitely worth seeing in the flesh.
