The motor show in Melbourne, which kicks off on July 1, will be just the second public outing for the Lexus LF-Gh, which made its global debut at last month’s New York International Auto Show.

The hybrid concept provides a number of hints at the design direction of the luxury Japanese brand’s upcoming premium grand touring sedan, likely to be the next-generation Lexus GS.

Lexus Australia CEO Tony Cramb said the LF-Gh concept would give Australian show-goers their first look at the next stage of Lexus’ ‘L finesse’ design language, including the spindle-shaped grille, which will be the focal point of all future Lexus designs.

“The LF-Gh grille really is a powerful design element in its own right – it will become a signature Lexus design element,” Mr Cramb said.

“Our latest vehicle, the CT 200h, hinted at where we were taking our L finesse design philosophy, but LF-Gh leaves no questions about what is next for Lexus.

Mr Cramb said the grille shape was about much more than looks, confirming that it plays a substantial role in airflow control and stability.

“Much like in the case of the Lexus LFA supercar, the designers and engineers for the LF-Gh concept have used function to inspire and mould the design of a spectacular-looking vehicle,” he said.

The Lexus LF-Gh will line up alongside the LFA supercar and the rest of the Lexus range at the Australian International Motor Show from July 1-10.
