Held yearly, the AIDA recognises excellence in design and functionality in a number of categories, as judged by a panel of industry experts. The Automotive and Transport category featured cars from Kia (Optima), Hyundai (Elantra), Audi (A7), Peugeot (3008 and RCZ) and Ford (Ranger), with the Audi A7 taking out the best in category award.

The judges described the Kia Optima as “A modern interpretation of the medium-sized family sedan. The rich coupe-like styling of the Kia Optima belies the practical application of the car as a family car suitable for five adults.”

Attending the AIDA on behalf of Kia was Kevin Hepworth, Kia’s National Public Relations Manager. Mr Hepworth told CarAdvice that “Kia Motors Australia is delighted and proud to have been recognised by the prestigious Australian International Design Awards. The Optima has been acknowledged around the world as a game-changing style statement in the mid-size car  market and this award is one more endorsement for the styling revolution Kia is driving across its range of models.

“Moving forward Kia will continue to bring million-dollar looks to the price-aware buyer.”

The judges base their decisions on the coveted Design Award according to the product’s ability to exceed the five criteria for good design.

Brandon Gien, Managing Director of Good Design Australia described the judging process by saying that all entries underwent a thorough physical inspection assessing form, function, quality, safety, sustainability, innovation and best in class design.

“Award winners are the result of unwavering dedication to good design and commitment to a professional design process. Innovation, creativity and attention to detail are clearly at the heart of each project,” Gien said.
