Audi A2 Concept revealed in first images  [08/09/2011]

The first images of the Audi A2 Concept have been released ahead of the compact electric city car’s debut at next week’s 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.


Although they are just computer-generated images, they give us a clear indication of what to expect from the Audi A2 Concept, which is a direct response from Ingolstadt to the upcoming BMW i3.

The design of the Audi A2 Concept is clean and simple, drawing inspiration from the current production range as well as Audi’s previous e-tron electric concepts.

The Audi A2 Concept is 3800mm long, 1690mm wide and 1490mm tall, making it 149mm shorter, 50mm wider and 74mm lower than the the Audi A1 three-door.

The A2 Concept is powered by an 85kW/270Nm electric motor (believed to be the same unit as the one that featured in the Volkswagen Bulli Concept), sending power to the front wheel via a single-speed transmission.

The lithium-ion battery provides the Audi A2 Concept with an estimated driving range of 200km, and a full recharge takes around four hours.

Acceleration from 0-100km/h comes up in less than 10 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 150km/h.

Widespread use of carbon fibre and aluminium keeps the EV’s weight down to 1150kg.

Like the BMW i3, Audi says the A2 Concept will also offer an autonomous driving mode.
