How to
How to Replace the Lock Cylinder on a 1966 Pontiac Tempest  [18/05/2010]

The 1966 Pontiac Tempest features a dash-mounted lock cylinder which slides into the center of the ignition switch. The cylinder works similarly to a door lock in that it contains a number of tumblers that are actuated with a key.

When the key turns, the cylinder rotates and the ignition switch starts the engine. Over time, dirt and general wear and tear can damage the lock cylinder and cause starting difficulties. Fortunately, replacing the lock cylinder on the 1966 Tempest takes only a few minutes.
